Parker Hudson’s partnership with the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation (AVLF) continues to flourish. Not only does Parker Hudson assist the Safe Families Division – Domestic Violence Project of AVLF, but the firm and its attorneys also participate in AVLF’s Saturday Lawyer Program. The firm’s Ashley Filip Hoffman, formerly an associate in the Healthcare Practice Group, now in-house counsel at Emory University, and Kathryn W. Hauch, an associate with the Real Estate Practice Group, successfully obtained in Fulton County Magistrate Court a default judgment and award of full damages, including attorney fees, for unpaid wages entered against a corporate entity defendant, with its individual members also being named as defendants. The plaintiff, a hostess who had worked approximately 98 hours in the Defendant’s Atlanta restaurant, received a check for a portion of her wages that bounced. After alerting her employer to the bounced check, she continued to work additional hours until plaintiff’s employer informed her that she would not be paid for her services. Plaintiff was connected to Parker Hudson through AVLF, and the firm obtained a favorable outcome under a piercing the corporate veil legal theory.
